HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES
back to the 70's fanclub event took place
the last weekend of September 2013
at Pontins Prestatyn
40TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT
since the making of the film.
(We hope to return for another fun weekend end September 2014)
Thanks to all our fans who attended.
We hope you had a good time and made some new friends over the weekend!
What a great bunch you were and a special hello to the those from Canada and the Isle of Wight who came to the event

Our party outside the main gates, which are still the same ones as seen in
HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES

The gates still have the Pontins 'P' on them and on the right hand pillar is the HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES PLAQUE commemorating the film.

Tickets please! It's time for our locations tour

The coach parked outside our chalets,
with views of the surrounding countryside and seafront.

The rear outside of the main complex remains much the same as it did in 1973.
The front of today's Pontins has had the upper windows boarded over as they became snooker areas for the World Snooker qualifying games.
However the original windows are still underneath the boards.
Stephen Lewis unveiled the plaque in October 2004,
then joined us for a tour on an open top bus
He was on great form that day as Blakey and it was a pleasure to
meet and chat with him.

Our coach for the weekend owned and drivern by Len
The Bartons 1235 coach was built in 1973,
the same year as the HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES movie screened

We visit Rhuddlan Bridge, the location where Arthur, Olive and Mum lost their luggage.
Pontins in 1973

On the Sunday we spent a few hours in the seaside town of Rhyl.
MORE TO COME....

HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES

The first aid post present day

Thanks to Yvonne for contacting the fan club as Yvonne was one of the passengers on the open top deck of the bus during filming of HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES and appeared in other scenes, see below;
I was on the bus the day they were filming the trip around Prestayn and Rhyl. I was on the open top seats, and had a telling off from Brian Izzard - "Madam, you are paid to act, not take photographs!"
I was a paid extra. My young daughter was with me on the bus and Doris Hare took her under her wing!.
My older daughter was with me when the filming was being done in the ballroom. Steve chatted to her like a Dutch uncle about being an actress,
Lynne used to be the prize buyer on 'The Price Is Right' and Jill played the undertaker's daughter in ;Oliver' in the West End when Roy Hudd was Fagan/
The surgery scene was filmed on a Saturday morning(Change over day?)
We used to enjoy staying on to see some of the rushes. Also it was interesting to se the filming of the paint in the toilet bit.
By the way, I expect you know that Steve genuinely damaged his foot so it had to be written into the script!
Cheers, Yvonne Cramer

Filming of Holiday ON THE BUSES with Reg Varney, Bob Grant, Stephen Lewis and
Director Bryan Izzard in the chair
The young lady getting out/in the pool "Swimming pool 1973" photo was my ex!!! The photo was taken by the Snap Happy (camp photographers) for post cards.
But that's not all........The photo of Arthur, leg out kicking Olive in the pool? The lifeguard at the shallow end? That's me. I recall the scene, I've blown the photo up, it's me, same thin legs and trunks as in the Canteen notice board, Made my day.

Hi, It's Darryl here who sent the life guard photo 'jumping in when Olive lost her bikini bottoms'. Just been looking at 'Pontins past and present' 1970s. The last photo stated "This is the spot Arthur pushed Olive in" In fact, that is the shallow end of the pool (paddling pool in background) Olive got pushed in at the deep end. The shallow end was used when a models bum was filmed for Olives bum before the pool opened in the morning
More memories from Darryl, not sure if I've mentioned these before. At the start of Olives bikini bottom loss, Arthur is seen climbing a few steps to the pool (presuming he was coming from the changing room) in fact those steps went down to one of the pools fire escapes.
The other memory, the fight Stan had with the Italian? cook....That was actually filmed in the staff canteen on the site.
About ten years ago I met one of the security guards (he was actually) in the scene where the security guards are in line and Blakey (and scenes in the staff canteen) is telling them to smile. This guy was Francis (tinted glasses long side burns)
Best wishes
Darryl
This is the 1973 built coach we will be using for the event.
Built same time that HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES
was showing at the cinemas
